The most exciting thing about being done my Masters and travelling (simultaneously) is that a) I will have time to write again, and b) some of my best ideas come while in bamboo hut bars. That’s where Static was invented, and where I’m going to work on inventing something else. Inspiration strikes at the craziest of places, and I hear southeast Asia can be pretty darned crazy!

Halloween is, by far, my favourite holiday. I love the paranormal. I love a good scare. This year is the scariest Halloween I’ve had in years, though…

…this year, for Halloween, I am sitting a midterm.

No kidding. From 5 to 8 or so at night, just when all the moppets are out braving the blowing snow in their snowsuits/costumes (because it isn’t Halloween in Alberta without sub-zero temperatures and snow), right at prime scary-movie time… I’ll be wracking my brains trying to remember what the PMI Book of Knowledge says about project management.

Sigh.

And yes, it is Thanksgiving. We Canadians like to spread our holidays out a little. J

And hoo boy, am I ever thankful! How To Date A Henchman is on the Dear Author Bestseller list for the week of October 7^th.  I am thrilled beyond anything!

How To Date A Henchman was also reviewed on Smart Bitches, Trashy Books. I have a HUGE girl-crush on those bitches, and squeed a lot when I saw Henchman got a B+. My fiancé thought I’d sprung a leak or something, I was squeeing so hard. True story.

And yesterday HOW TO DATE A HENCHMAN was #3 on the “Most Popular” list on the Carina Press website. I feel so cool, you guys!! I was never the “most popular” at anything, what with me being a ginormous nerd and all. I’m not there today, but for a brief, shining moment, I saw my name in 14 point font.

Also, a big congrats to Ruth Diaz and Heather Long for the release of their superhero novellas. Shiny!

HOW TO DATE A HENCHMAN is out there in the world, you guys! This is amazing to me. I’m continually humbled and irrationally buoyant whenever anyone chooses to read my book, and knowing that people enjoy Gina and Burke has kind of made my September. And it’s barely begun!

And then I started the second year of my Masters degree, which is less amazing due to faculty rigmarole and uncertain classes that may mean that I won’t graduate on schedule. This makes me a cranky bunny.

But in the mean time, I have my little book and my laser eyes, and that’s a kind of superpower all on its own.

In other news, How to Date a Henchman is also the title of my forthcoming novella from Carina Press — check it out come September!

They are either an author’s nemesis or best friend. Usually I’m good at titles. Bluebeard’s Machine just popped into my head one day and perfectly summed up my book: a retelling of Bluebeard, but with clones and a body-as-machine paradigm. I titled three of Moira Rogers’ Southern Arcana books: Crux, Crossroads and Cipher.

And then there’s this little book. A supervillain… sort of… novella forthcoming from Carina Press. I’d originally titled it Henching, but Henching is a made-up word and a lot of people don’t know what it means. Ergo, no good. And although I pummelled my brain, I couldn’t come up with anything better. Henchman Blues? No. Working Class Villains? No good either.

The Carina Press marketing team is working at it too, and came up with How to Date a Henchman. Whether or not the title will stick is to be seen. Stay tuned for updates!
