Book Meme: Day 21

Day 21 – Favourite romantic/sexual relationship (including asexual romantic relationships)

The best couples complement each other. One isn’t always trying to compensate for the other, or put the other in a box. They’re two halves of a whole.

One of my favourite books is The Wood Wife by Terri Windling, and Maggie Black and Fox are a favourite. I like their slow coming together, Maggie’s reluctance since Fox is so much younger than she is, and the way she’s attracted to Fox because of the slow way he talks, the dust on his boots and the way the desert is reflected in him – in an altogether human way.

I’m also a sucker for the tragic. In The Last Unicorn, Lir and Amalthea never touch each other, but they’re willing to die to stay together. And they do. Both of them. It’s courtly love, people. Beautiful.
