Book Meme: Day 25

Day 25 – Any five books from your “to be read” stack

In no particular order, here are 5 books that I’m about to start or want to start in the near future:

  1. Wild Cards and Iron Horses by Sheryl Nantus, which is a romance about a gambler with a mechanical hand and a wild-west woman mechanic, and I don’t even know what else but it looks so awesome I’m drooling to read it anyway.
  2. In Praise of Shadows by Tanizaki Junichiro, which is a book of essays on aesthetics written in the 1933 by a Japanese man lamenting the rise of the West with all our bright, shiny open spaces. It sounds more like an ethnography than an treatise on aesthetics to me, but I’m a total nerd for that. He also apparently writes the most beautiful homage to miso soup that’s ever been printed.
  3. Kraken by China Mieville, because it has a giant squid, cults, magic, murder and mayhem. And because I’m still trying to read Perdido Street Station again for the first time.
  4. The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook, which is a steampunk romance of the Finest Calibre. Or so I hear.
  5. Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews, because I’m always and forever more will be a sucker for a good rural fantasy romance type thingie. It looks fun, and the previous book was super enjoyable.
