Book Meme: Day 29

Almost done!

Day 29 – Saddest character death OR best/most satisfying character death (or both!)

The answer to both questions is Amalthea’s death in The Last Unicorn. I cry like a little baby every time, but her death (aka her transformation back into the unicorn) is 100% necessary to the story. Even the characters know this, and they grieve at her loss, but everyone does it anyway. Because they have to. Because it’s right.

Sigh.

I’m also a bit of a sucker for the nice man’s death at the end of Call of the Wild by Jack London because, y’know, Buck loved him. And I love dogs. And he was lonely without a man to scratch his ears for the rest of his short, hard life living wild as Alpha of a pack of wolves.

Sigh, sigh.
